Make Me a Mess
Della Jane loves art. She loves creating, she's much like me in that regard. She takes it very seriously and finds so much pride in her work, it's absolutely adorable and endearing! After Della finished painting yesterday, she climbed onto the counter without assistance, with her apron still on, to clean out the brushes in the kitchen sink. It was a valiant effort, but in the process of rinsing the bristles, you wouldn't believe the places I kept finding smudges of paint! On the cabinets, backsplash, counter, toaster oven, floor, table. Everywhere. She made such a huge mess trying to clean up her mess, and was so oblivious to the fact. It made me chuckle.
I often find myself singing my own words to The Fiddler on the Roof's song "Match Maker". And when I say often, I mean all day, every day. "Mess maker, mess maker, make me a mess! It's always more, it's never less." Some messes are the products of masterpieces in the making... like Della's painting. But most are just the result of curious monkey-boys who have no fear of natural consequences. For instance, crushing an egg with your fingers as opposed to cracking it and pulling it apart. I love observing these moments and how eager children are to learn new things. Henry and Della were both very helpful while making chocolate pizzelles yesterday. I made some pretty messes of my own, that's for sure.
I'm a total fan of Della's new art piece, it looks good on her wall. I've also been dreaming up ideas for her room, and think I'll paint a pale pink accent wall to add a bit of personality to it. Della is totally on board with the idea, and has a plethora of ideas on how to personalize it. For now, though, I really love the simplicity of her space.
We are leaving this Saturday morning to kick off our family reunion. I'm planning on taking a week off from blogging, and thought I'd make up for it with an extra post this week! Wishing you the best 'til next time.
