Trying to Beat the Heat
There's real charm in an old home. Something special about the personality of each room... of the wooden floors that squeak and bend under our feet, to the weathered windows and hollow doors. There are also flaws within all of its beauty that have been, as of late, bringing me back to reality and bringing the beloved honeymoon phase to an end.
Like the fact that without AC, our house is getting up to 90 degrees during the day, and the only thing we can do is hide away in the cool basement, stuff our faces with popsicles or ice cream and cool off in our kiddie-pool in the backyard. There's also the option of packing up the kids into our big car and friend, Donkey, for an excuse to blast the air conditioning in our faces and buy cold sodas. But the minute that I ignore the sweat behind my knees and take a look around me, I'm just swept up in the beauty of our home again! I fall for it every day. And someday, we'll have cold air blowing within its walls and all will be well.
Henry was keeping me company as I tried to capture some of our home's charm for everyone else to see. And it just so happens that Henry is pretty charming, too.
